Keyholding Across Cardiff and Newport

K9 Protection Ltd provides professional keyholding and alarm response services across Cardiff and Newport, with coverage across South East Wales. Whether it’s an intruder alarm at 2AM or an early contractor needing access, we’ve got it covered: fast, reliable, and handled by our own team.

If you're looking for:

  • Fast response with published response times
  • Detailed digital reports
  • Suitably equipped patrol officers; from the reliable vehicles to the technology we use

Then look no further!

Areas We Cover

We’re physically based in Newport and provide keyholding and alarm response across most of South East Wales with our own response vehicles. Our core patch is Cardiff and Newport with vehicles strategically positioned around the region, with regular coverage across Torfaen, Caerphilly, Blaenau Gwent and Rhondda Cynon Taf.

Typical areas include Cardiff Bay and the city centre, Newport’s main industrial estates, Cwmbran and Pontypool, Risca and Blackwood, Abertillery through to Tredegar, and the Treforest and Talbot Green corridor.

If your premises sits just outside this area, it’s still worth asking. We’ll confirm coverage based on access arrangements and expected response times.

For clients with larger estates or multi-site requirements, we can also support national coverage through our membership of The Keyholding Alliance, using the same standards and reporting model you receive locally.

About Us

We're not another faceless national firm; we're a local key holding company with real people, and we take pride in delivering a service that’s personal, transparent, and accountable. Here’s what sets us apart:

  • Live Response Stats: We publish our response times in real-time. To our knowledge, we're the only keyholding provider in Wales  (possibly the UK) doing this.
  • Local Means Local: No subcontractors, no call centres. If you choose K9, you get K9; if you require national service we only use a vetted and approved partner network.
  • Site Management Portal: Manage services across your estate, add & end sites, and update access codes and access incident reports through our client web portal.
  • Digitally Tracked, Fully Transparent: All attendances are GPS-tracked and logged in real-time. If we miss a response time target (rare, but it happens), the system automatically discounts your invoice. No quibbling.
  • Equipped to Respond: Our team uses vehicles best suited to the environment whether that’s 4x4, van, motorcycle, or even mountain bike. (Yes, really, we used bikes in Cardiff city centre during the UEFA Final to beat the traffic.)
  • Predictive Positioning: Our patrol guards have access to predictive positioning data based on several factors which suggests the best locations to muster between calls, allowing us to further improve our response times.
  • Body-Worn Cameras: All patrols are recorded with live-streaming body cams for transparency, lone worker safety, and incident documentation.

We look after clients in sectors ranging from education and engineering to healthcare, retail, and the motor trade. See how we helped Newport Caravans for a real example of how fast, accountable service makes a difference.

Keyholding That Works for You

We can mobilise your service quickly - often the same day you sign. We agree service levels up front, and we aim to exceed them every time. If we ever fall short, your call-out is discounted automatically. And after any alarm activation, you'll receive a full digital incident report by the next working day.

So whether you're after a keyholder in Cardiff, Newport, or anywhere within 18 miles of Blackwood we’re here to help.

More Than Just Alarm Response

Keyholding isn’t just about alarms. Maybe your team needs help with daily unlocking and lockups, or you're based outside the area and need someone on-hand for contractor access. Maybe you’ve got a vacant site that requires regular inspections, or clients needing to leave vehicles safely overnight. Whatever the case, we’ll build a keyholding service tailored to your site and your schedule.

Frequently Asked Questions

British Standard BS7984 is the main standard for the keyholding & alarm response industry. As a company, K9 Protection Ltd are fully compliant with BS7984-1 (Keyholding) and BS7984-3 (Mobile Security Patrols). This means that certain requirements must be met, such as:

  • Appropriate key-safes to be used: we use safes permanently mounted in each of our vehicles
  • Appropriate key-management: Each set of keys is stored under seal and a digital audit trail is maintained when seals are broken
  • Site surveys are carried out as part of the onboarding process and dedicated assignment instructions compiled
  • Effective reporting: All of our reports are filled in digitally by our guards and provided via both email and our client portal.

Our response times vary from postcode to postcode and are tracked through our guard management software. All of our alarm response times are published on our website and change daily; typically, Cardiff is averaging just over 21 minutes and Newport averages around 16 minutes but this information can be found here.

Our service level will be agreed when setting up your contract (typically 35 minutes in Cardiff & Newport) and if we ever fail to attend within the agreed timescale, a discount will be applied to your invoice.

Yes! We provide a scheduled open & close service to premises across the Cardiff and Newport areas. Whether you need someone to unlock or lock your premises, or need a secondary keyholder for security purposes to assist your team with unlocking, we're happy to help.

When an alarm goes off and we're contacted by your monitoring station, we will dispatch a patrol to your premises. The guard will have access to a digital "Assignment Instruction" file which will give them useful information on the premises such as the route of entry, locations of important infrastructure, and any high risk areas to pay special attention to.

When the guard arrives on site, their first task will often be to carry out a perimeter check of your property and ensure there are no obvious signs of intrusion; once they are happy with the external condition of the building they will enter the premises and log in to the intruder alarm. The alarm will usually show the details of the detector which triggered the alarm and the guard will then head to this area and investigate the cause - if the response officer can see an obvious cause (spider webs, late night Blu-Tack failures, and Christmas decorations are the most common reasons) they will ensure the problem is not going to recur and proceed to reset the alarm. If it's not obvious what caused the alarm, the guard will carry out a full check of the building and search for intruders. When the guard is satisfied there is no longer a threat, they will reset the alarm and "wait out" for 15 minutes outside the property while they compile their report, meaning they're close if the alarm re-sounds.

When a situation arises that requires the emergency services, our guard will make contact with the relevant emergency service and will remain on site until the incident is resolved. If the situation is business-interrupting (or you've asked us to), the guard will make contact with your designated contacts.

We do not subcontract. If you are in our coverage area and require an alarm response service, you get a K9 Protection alarm response service; that's our guards, our vehicles, our guard management system. No moonlighting Uber rider or off-duty taxi drivers here! We self deliver all services. If you have a requirement outside of our service we are able to either manage the service for you or refer you directly to a fellow member of The Keyholding Alliance.

Very! We take data security seriously and all client data is stored on secure servers with backups and redundancy in place. When data is provided to our fully vetted guards to company issued and encrypted handheld devices. Access is granted using temporary access tokens which are only valid for the duration of the response call; meaning that even if a guard's PDA were stolen as part of a response call or lost on site, the data is protected.
