Something is changing in the security industry, and for once, it is a positive shift.
For nearly fifteen years, K9 Protection has focused on doing one thing well: delivering high-quality, locally managed security services across Cardiff, Newport and the surrounding valleys. We have built our reputation by sticking to our patch, knowing our sites, and doing the right things in the right way.
From time to time, however, a familiar problem crops up. A long-standing client opens a new branch outside our area. A national keyholding enquiry comes in through the website. The inevitable question follows: “Is there someone you can recommend?”
The missing link in national coverage
Until recently, the honest answer in many parts of the UK was no. Not because there are no good companies out there, but because there has never been a reliable way to know who they are, how they operate, or whether they meet the same standards we expect of ourselves.
That gap is what led to the creation of The Keyholding Alliance.
After many conversations with other operators across the industry, it became clear this was a shared frustration. Everyone had the same questions: how do you find a trusted local provider, how do you stop work being quietly subcontracted on, how do you ensure standards are consistent, and how do you give clients a single, accountable point of contact?
More than a directory
The result is not just a directory, but a managed network of independently vetted, self-delivering security providers. A platform designed to make it easier for clients to find a reliable keyholding company in their area, and for reputable operators to work together without compromising standards.
It would be easy to point to existing registers, such as the SIA Approved Contractor Scheme, and while those have their place, they are not built for customer use and they do not tell the full story. They do not show who will actually be attending alarms, whether services are self-delivered, or whether keyholding is a core, actively managed service rather than a bolt-on.
How the Alliance is different
The Keyholding Alliance takes a different approach. Membership is based on demonstrated delivery, not just badges. Every provider is checked before they go live on the platform, including confirmation of self-delivery, insurance cover for keyholding, vehicle and key safe verification, licence and controlling mind checks, fleet monitoring, and ongoing service level performance.
The aim is simple: reduce risk, remove guesswork, and make it easier to trust who turns up at three in the morning.
What this means for our customers

As the Alliance grows, we can offer centralised contract management, reporting and customer service, backed by a national network of vetted local partners who deliver the work themselves.
Looking ahead
The Alliance is still young, but momentum is strong. We already have coverage across around 100 UK postcode districts, with more being added weekly.
For us, this is a natural extension of how we have always worked: local delivery, clear accountability, and standards that mean something. The difference now is that those principles no longer have to stop at the edge of our postcode.
