Burglar Alarm Installation & Maintenance
The alarm installation day
Whether you're in Cardiff, Newport, or the surrounding South Wales area, Installing an intruder alarm system from K9 Protection is a pain-free experience, and the fact there's no wires means that the intruder alarm detectors can be very discrete within your home. Prior to the burglar alarm installation, our engineering team would look at your home and suggest an ideal alarm system based on your needs; this could be a simple system with a sensor in each room and a siren on the front wall, or a more advanced installation with double detectors in each room to allow for a remote monitoring service to monitor your home; possibly even with range expanders for those with a sizeable estate. The opportunities with Ajax are endless; the list of things the system can secure and devices that are available is growing longer each day.
Whether you're securing a door, a window, or looking more towards motion and early detection of broken glass then there's detectors that will work just the way you need them to.
The day before alarm installation day, our manufacturer-trained engineer will connect your new alarm hub to the systems in our office to ensure it's got all of the latest version updates installed; they'll make sure the backup batteries are charged, and they'll activate the hub with Ajax to ensure it's ready to install.
On installation day, our engineer will attend your property at an agreed time and re-confirm everything with you - We want to make sure that you're happy with and confident in your home security system at every stage. The install engineer will then proceed to install the hub with the minimum of mess and fuss; they'll start installing the detectors and testing as they go. Once the system is complete, the engineer will carry out a full "walk test" of your system to ensure that they're being detected as we'd expect and we'll test the siren to make sure it's loud enough. Before we leave, every door, window, motion sensor and camera will have been tested and you will have been shown how to control the alarm, both from a keypad and from the easy to use smart phone app. If your system is being remotely monitored, we'll commission the system with the alarm receiving centre and ensure you have the contact details to communicate with them if you ever need to change the key holder details.
Why do I need an intruder alarm?
People often ask why they need an intruder alarm, or what the benefit of a home security system will be. There's a belief with some people that the presence of an alarm is an advertisement that you've got things that are worth stealing. The reality is three fold:
- An alarm gives you peace of mind that you're protected - Whether it's knowing the house is secure when you're out, or knowing that you've a panic button you can press in an emergency which will raise the alarm with friends, neighbours, or a monitoring station.
- An alarm often reduces insurance costs - It may not be a lot each year, but a professionally installed intruder alarm can help lower the cost of your home contents insurance. Add remote monitoring to your alarm and it could further reduce your premiums.
- An alarm makes you a harder target - It's not nice thinking of anyone being burgled, but the fact of the matter is that burglars are looking for softer targets. The house with a good alarm, good locks, CCTV and effective lighting is going to be a harder target than a house without those things. It has been proven that criminals will typically attack the easier target.

We do recommend that if your intruder alarm is monitored you take up a maintenance contract, and if you require the alarm to use the mobile network as a second path of communication then we will charge an annual subscription for that; but nothing is hidden and nothing is forced on you. We are a complete security solution provider - if you only need an alarm, no problem. Need CCTV to go with it? No problem. Need a keyholder service to attend when your alarm goes off? Equally, no problem! Finally, with us, you own your alarm system you can be very sure of that! We don't believe in "free burglar alarms" in return for expecting you to pay extortionate monthly monitoring charges or never ending rental agreements or leases, and if you ever decide to reduce the services you take from us, we promise that it won't render your alarm system useless - a promise that we can only wish a few national companies would make.
Local Alarm Installer
Unlike some of the companies you'll find on Google, we're a local alarm installer and not just a national business with a website made to look like they're based up the road. We are physically based in Newport and have been in our current building for the last 6 years, with a satellite office in Cardiff. At K9 Protection, we are qualified to install Ajax Baseline, Ajax Superior, and Ajax Fibra security systems; specialising in the Ajax Superior line of products.
We often get asked what's the difference between Baseline & Superior devices, and the answer is simple - Superior is the natural evolution of the products, with upgraded functionality and improved mounting methods which give it the edge over all wireless alarm systems that we've come across over the years.
At K9 Protection, we're realistic about the fact that the market is flooded with alarm systems and it's often hard to differentiate between the systems available. We've been in the security industry a long time, and we know there's lots of hard working alarm installers out there who are installing top-notch systems. We deal exclusively with Ajax Systems because we firmly believe they're the best of the best; but that's not to discredit the experienced installers out there installing Texecom, Pyronix & Risco hardware. In recent years with the blurred line between "smart homes" and "intruder alarms", there are a number of technology companies who've created a business model for alarms where you never actually own your hardware. When you use these suppliers, the system is essentially leased to you as the subscriber (they call it "remote monitoring) - if you ever wish to cancel the remote monitoring aspect of the alarm with these suppliers, you will most likely either have to
- Pay an exit fee
- Pay a disconnection fee
- Have the equipment removed
- Lose all smart features
- Pay "punishment pricing" for all future services
At K9 Protection, we don't believe in leasing a system where something so important as home security is involved, so the major difference between us and the national firms like Verisure and ADT is that you own your alarm from the day it's installed (even if utilise our interest free credit options). Furthermore, your alarm includes smart app features from day one regardless of whether you opt for remote monitoring, something we'll never prevent you from using if you change your service level with ourselves further down the line.
