Security Training

At K9 Protection Ltd, we get a number of enquiries each week from people who want to take part in security guard training. K9 Protection are not a training provider, but can recommend some training providers who carry with them a good reputation for providing some of the best security guard training in the business.

General security training

John Harford, SFM Training, 07866 627703

SFM Training run most security related training including Level 2 Award for Door Supervisors, Upskilling, and many other related courses, and are our first choice when looking for a trainer internally

Security Dog Training

Security dog training is far more specialist and is a growing area within the UK, and the quality of training varies greatly depending on who you train with and how often you carry out continuation training. There are too many "dog handlers" in trade today who refuse to recognise the importance of CPD training once they've done the initial course. There are also many egos involved in the security dog industry, with many people being conditioned to believe that only one training method works, and all others are wrong.

It is not always best to stay local - there are trainers across the country who offer great results with different personality types, both for humans and for their dogs.

Some names which come up on a regular basis:

Andrew Rowley (Woodborough Gardens Kennels, Bath)

Carl Nevet (Nevet Canine Services, Darlington)

Richard Timmis (County Guard Dogs, Welshpool)

Julie Aspinall (Delta One Canines, Coventry)

We would recommend speaking with each trainer and working out if you are on the same page for your dog handler training.

There is also a school of thought that you don't "need" training, as security dogs are not licensed. Whilst this is technically true, the situation breaks down, leaving your insurance policy invalid, and the potential of both civil and criminal charges against you - moreso since the revision of the Dangerous Dogs Act in 2014. At K9 Protection, we do not provide and will not employ a "guard with a dog" - All of our handlers are passionate and professional dog handlers, often with a background in dog handling which stretches for many years.

Security Training Funding

The best point of contact with regards to funding will be the individual trainers - K9 Protection do not pay for training for people who are not already within the company.

K9 Protection will not provide a promise of work in order to secure funding from the Job Centre schemes that are available, unless the person has been through the complete interview process and deemed suitable for a role within K9 Protection. We take a dim view of this practice, and currently turn down in the region of five requests per week for fraudulent job offer letters from people seeking to obtain their SIA License through the Job Centre.
